twas the Friday before Christmas

Merry Christmas, Friends! Is anyone else a little surprised that it's the day before Christmas Eve already? Christmas always sneaks up on me, but I feel like it did even more so this year. I have today off from work, so my focus will be wrapping presents and baking goodies. I haven't wrapped the first gift, and I have a couple of pans of peanut butter fudge to make and a sausage cheese dip that's oh so yummy. (I plan to share these recipes with you soon, promise.) Before I delve into "get things done" mode, I wanted to share a few things with you from the week.

Jack the Elf has been quite creative. The boys' favorites were the days when he borrowed the play cell phone and when he vaccinated cattle.

I read The Memory of Us. I was looking for a quick read and my co-worker recommended this one. Bonus, it was free to read with my Amazon Prime membership. It took me about three days to read, and I read every spare moment that I had. Clearly, it was a page turner. I was content with the ending, but I couldn't help feel a little sad through most of the novel. I'm not sure it's something I'd recommend if you're looking for an uplifting read.

I did all of my Christmas shopping online earlier in the week. I ordered everything from three stores: Amazon, The Gap, and Nordstrom. All three of these stores are fantastic for online ordering and returns, if needed. I have always been a huge fan of Amazon because of their free two day shipping that comes with the Prime membership, and the Gap has been my favorite when it comes to clothing for a few years now. But being a new Nordstrom customer, I didn't know what to expect with them. I can say that I was especially impressed. They sent the wrong item, and when I called customer service, the agent spoke plain English, was personable, and incredibly helpful. The item I originally ordered was no longer available, so she price matched a comparable item that was more expensive. On top of that, she expedited the shipping so that it would come today. Thanks Kate @ Green Fashionista for introducing me to, most likely, a new and long lasting friendship.

Christmas flowers. I've shared before how I like to buy flowers for myself. I just pick up a bouquet when I'm at the grocery store and they usually last for a couple of weeks. I hadn't been impressed with the selection the last couple of times so we haven't had any. But this week, thankfully, was different. I thought these were so pretty and perfect for the Christmas weekend.

I experienced some bittersweet mommy moments. Little J went to the mailbox by himself for the first time. I watched him like a hawk of course, but it was still bittersweet. I was so proud of him. He looked both ways, watched for cars, and stayed alert the entire time. But at the same moment, I felt like crying. He is growing up so fast. I felt the same way about Little L. We have a playroom upstairs and he is finally getting comfortable enough to play up there by himself for long stretches. I was so happy to be able to clean the house, do some laundry, and vacuum without him going directly behind me undoing everything I had just done. But again, I felt like crying because it means he's growing up. When they reach these kinds of milestones, it always makes me proud and in ways does make life easier, but it saddens me too. I have always loved this saying, the days are long but the years are short, because there is so much truth in those words.

Weekend festivities will kickoff this evening. The weekend holds lots of time with family, amazing food, presents, and celebrating the Reason for the Season - Happy Birthday, Jesus! Christmas is one of my absolute favorite times of the year. We've got a couple of Christmas breakfasts on the agenda, a couple of Christmas dinners, and a whole lot of fun. We will be on the go until late Christmas night, and I am so thankful that I have a few days off of work after Christmas. I'm looking forward to that too!

I'm wishing each of you the Merriest of Christmases!

  4. It is the most bittersweet feeling every to watch your babies grow. Mine are both really still 'babies', but I know I will blink and they will be walking to the mailbox, too. I wish I could freeze time!
I hope you and your family had a perfect Christmas!

  6. My mom has the ELF for the grandkids and in all the hubbub she forgot to take him away, and the kids were all confused. It was hilarious. Hope you had a good holiday.
